propane kit on 99 xj
Cool mod, man.
There is a company out there, and I can't for the life of me remember their name, that sells a dual-fuel conversion for Jeeps. It allows you to use conventional fuels as well as propane. Throw a switch and you're using propane. Throw it again and you can use gasoline. The only problem I see is that you have to add ANOTHER fuel tank to your rig. I thought about doing this mod to my TJ, but TJs have such little room in the back for trail gear, let alone a decent sized propane tank. I think it's cool that you're doing the propane thing, and when I eventually pick up an XJ, I think I will do the dual-fuel conversion.

....I dont know....
As cool as this is... @ 10-12mpgs/26Gal tank = 260-312 miles per tank
I think I'll still stick with a diesel conversion, and get 23-28mpgs/20Gal tank = 460-560 miles per tank.
And besides, you cant really drive loooong distances with this. I dont think highways have propane refilling stations in them.
But for a STRICTLY offroad vehicle, that gets trailer everywhere, this would be the ideal setup.

That is where I beg to differ.
the fact that propane runs completely clean and it does not produce ANY carbon build up is a plus, it will save a new engine lots of turmoil

I work on propane powered vehicles, and the cons out way the pros until about 3 years ago when liquid propane direct injection systems hit the market. Prior system using a mixer and carb were dirty and unreliable. Not to mention what propane temps do to intake and exhaust valves.

But, places to get propane tanks filled are hard to come buy (here atleast), since most places do the "swap a tank" method, where you turn in your old empty tank and grab a new full one, because its easier that way, and they dont need to have/keep a bulk propane tank on the premises.
Will it save you money? Yes, but only because propane costs less than gas, and thats the only plus I see from this, when put on a DD.
I still think a diesels benefits outweigh the propane, when considering them in a DD...but thats just me...
