Default Problems--APN Header Install

Ok so I dont want to get into huge details but my header install has taken WAYY longer than it should have. I cant seem to get the intake manifold to sit on the rear stud of the block. The front fits flush and right over the stud that guides you, but the back I cant get to save my life. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to solve it?

Thanks

Have you tried just fitting the intake without the header installed to make sure it actually fits over the stud?

Also, on my setup I had to clearance the rear header tube and intake manifold to get them to fit. I have a '92 and was installing the '99-up intake and they have a known clearance issue with the rear runner.

can you take a pic? is anything geting in the way causing it to get hung up? maybe one of the 1 2 4 & 5 loose bolts ? try taking eveything off and getting the studs matched up. flip the intake so the ports are facing up and line up the stud holes with the studs.

well after messing with this thing for 2 nights after work, its all finished. The only way I could get the intake manifold on was to keep the header loose until i had the manifold sitting on the dowels. If tightened the header bolts first like the instructions said, the manifold wouldnt sit on the rear dowel.

Sounds great and smells horrible from all the grease burning off that was rubbed on the header from my arms while installing.

Yes you do. Its not hard at all...like I said I had to leave the header bolts loose to get the manifold back on the dowels, but once I figured that out, it was cake.

YOu have to take it off because the bolts that hold the intake manifold in also hold the exhaust manifold/header in. The bolt goes thru a hold in the block and on one side the washer will hold an ear/tab for the header, on the other side the ear/tab the intake manifold. It cant be done without removing the intake manifold. It is not hard if you take your time and do it right. I swear now that I have done it, I could have it off and back on in less than 2 hrs easily.

When u take the intake off do u have to remove the fuel rail with the injectors from the intake or can the intake come off with the fuel rail still attached

you can unbolt the intake move it up a little bit with the fuel rail on but it will make things difficult. I took mine all the way out and cleaned and painted it. I left the fuel rail and injectors sitting in the engine bay, was going to be difficult to undo the fuel line.

No bolts or nuts are supposed to fully tightened until final assembly. Finger tight for the header, then align the intake, finger tight all bolts, then torque down.
