Default Problem with axle shafts

2001 Cherokee. Replacing front axle shafts and wheel bearings. These new dust shields won't go on all the way and therefore I can't get the wheel bearings on. It seems to be because of this lip on the shafts. No idea what to do.

Look interesting. I figured out how to get these plastic ones to work.

For anyone in the future who sees this I figured out a solution. I used a file and filed down the inside of the plastic dust shield a bit and eventually when I was pulling and spinning the shield at the same time it slid over the hump on the shaft. Guys on reddit also mentioned a heat gun could work.

Well, you're almost there..lol...The shafts are certainly clean enough... The new ones go on tight so hopefully you have them in a warm environment for the process..Too cold and it's tough to get... And careful with any heat you could warp them... I'd suggest making up something to tap on it that hits the whole way around if you're not doing that already.. Maybe a hole in a 2x4 etc... I've tapped them back then brought ahead after they're in the final resting place...I've used aftermarket seals also and eliminated those style...EDIT: I see you found a solution...Good job...

Figured heat may not be ideal for a little plastic piece. Probably should have looked more for aftermarkets ones.

The factory style are fine... I just got weird about it when I cleaned/ welded/ regeared and changed them out this last build... There was a lot of junk up in the axle tubes and it was too clean at that point to have it all happen again....Now I've got an extra grease zerk when doing the undercarriage...

I have heard those aftermarket red ones cause more problems than solve problems. They trap water and dirt/dust in the axle shaft. I know an owner that regrets putting them on.

The dont seal but start spinning with shaft. I threw mine away after running them for only a short time. My rigs maybe 2000 miles a year if that and sees mainly trails. They may last longer on a street jeep. Idk.
definitely not something ill ever buy again

These are the ones you want...a complete rubber, barbed seal.. not a few O rings and exposed metal..
