Unhappy Possible water/mud damage to engine/electrics

So I accidently buried my 99 XJ in mud/water the other day, and when I pulled it out it immediatly started and I drove it about 2 hours back home with no problems. When I got home I realized that the engine was revving itself to up to about 2000rpm. I left it for a day and then when I tried to drive it today, There was a knock in the engine, the battery kept dying, and it was going about 5mph tops, smelled as if it was overheating. My steering locked up and the engine sputtered out about every minute or so, then we jumped it and I had it for another minute. Something is really wrong and I don't know much about engines, but I'm stuck having to fix it myself... Any Ideas?

Do you have the submarine/mudbogging package on your Jeep?

I do not. I have an upgraded cold air intake system that was not submerged when I went in.

Take of the intake tube and look into your intake are you sure you didn't get water in it. If you didn't I would look at sensors start with the oxygen sensor which was the reason my was acting like crap after dunking it on Saturday I disconnect it and it went into its pre mapped setting and ran like a champ ( I did get some water in the intake. Also check the tps and the iac they don't like muddy water if your getting a code and don't have a machine use try the key trick

Battery dying, no steering, and burning smell sounds like you smoked the belt.

If its revving up it's probably a sensor that is bad and as for the smell, steering locking up and dying. You just might be missing your belt.
