Default Please help

My alternator went out on my 1988 jeep cherokee xj 4.0
I plan to have a winch and Kc lights
So I want to upgrade my alt for a high output
Is there any that is a direct fit or do I need to do some mods

I would go with an oem alternator and a good battery like an optima yellow top, which is designed for high electrical draw. If you insist on an aftermarket alterantor, google Mean Green. There going to run you about 300 bucks but from what i hear, its worth it

Best option is a Dodge Durango 160 or 136 amp alternator -- much more cost effective. Needs a little grinding to go in (search, lots of how-tos), and possibly swapping the connectors over but it is very easy.

Harbor freight has cheap angle grinders for $15. Or a stock replacement will obviously drop in place with no mods.

i swaped in a 97 zj 136amp alt into my 96 xj. you need to grind both brackets for the alt. and the timming cover for it to fit.

youll also need new battery cables for the extra power

i got mine from here http://www.kelleyswip.com/

its a very easy mod to do and worth it. i run 4 lights and a taurus fan and she keeps up with my demand for power very well

Dude if I have 400 to blow it would be on a locker or an axle guess it just going to be a 100 amp one

It's a standard CS-130 Delco alternator. It CAN be had in higher output versions. Might look to see if you have a local electrical shop that specializes in alternators and starters, rebuilding them. They can fix you up with a bolt-on unit.

The importance of upgrading your grounds cannot be overemphasized.

www.kelleyswip.com makes them in a kit form according to your needs, at a reasonable price.

While you're at it on that 88, I would click on the pink link below and got to post #1, and then post #2.

I don't know. Just go get the highest amp output one you can at a reasonable price.
