I currently have a 2" budget lift on my Jeep XJ.
I've got the whole set up, All from rough country; new front and rear RC8000 shocks, front coil spacers, rear shackles, aal's, RC steering stabilizer.
would adding a 1" drop pitman arm do anything for me?

I am planning on, in about a year or so, to upgrade it to a 4.5" lift; could i use a drop pitman that is meant for 3'-5"? so i wouldnt have to buy another one in a year?

you dont need one at 2"

wait until you lift it more and see if you'll need one then

 

you don't need one at all until you ge to 4.5-6.5+ but hey it can't hurt right... your 2" will be fine unless you go over 6.5 i'd say

 

save yourself the money and buy a V8 grand cherokee pitman arm

yeah like others said u dont really need one til 4in+ of lift
