performance upgrade help
i was looking into getting some upgrades that would help the overall performance of my jeep(increased hp,mpg, etc.) i was looking at air intakes (ether regular or cold) headers or an exhaust system. do they really help? and witch ones give you the most bang for your buck. any other suggestions would be great
i have a 1997 jeep cherokee sport

Well, let's first start by saying that it's a jeep, it is pretty torquey to begin with and with the 4L isn't that gas efficient no matter what you do. But you can...
Get a better intake (snorkel is probably the best)
TB spacer
Get rid of a/c pulley and get a free spinning one (under drive pulley kit if they make one)
Full tune up- plugs, wires, cap and rotor, etc., dodge neon injectors are touted as being good
Free flowing exhaust
Different gears- 4.10's will add some pep
Reduce weight of vehicle- plastic panels, seats, dash...
But idk.. All I got is a DIY intake and I think an ap performance muffler and 235's and she goes good... Enough to beat ricers.. And if your boggin' on the trails, try low range..

The only thing I don't agree with from the post above is the throttle body spacer. They are useless. The 4.0 is not going to "open up" with these mods. Yes you may get a tiny bit more power but not much. And you may get a few more miles per tank. For me I just want it louder and sounding better. And yes it does run better. But not 20+ HP. Or anything of the sort.
