Hey fellas,
I was working on the brakes of my '87 Wagoneer yesterday and noticed that my entire exhaust looks like swiss cheese. After doing some perusing online, I've settled on the Flowmaster Super 44 and Thunderbolt Cat from Performance-Curve.com.
I'm kind of confused though. Most of the other items I looked at state that the pipe is 2.25'', to include the Walker downpipe. When I got on Performance-Curve.com I find that the kit he lists is 2.5'' diameter.
So does that mean that the Walker down pipe at 2.25'' won't fit up against the Cat properly or do I just need to purchase a 2.25-2.5'' adapter? I've called their phone number several times and it just rings and rings.
Lastly, would I be wise to just purchase a 2.25'' Super 44, the 2.25'' Thunderbolt inlet/outlet Cat and then the 2.25'' pipes elsewhere? Does at 2.5'' vs 2.25'' pipe make any damn difference?
Also, I know I'll need to purchase a header to upper pipe gasket, but plan to have my local muffler shop weld everything else up; do I need to purchase anything else?
Sorry if these questions are pretty basic for most of you, but this seems to be a topic that's covered so often that it's difficult to get a no joke answer!
Thank ya all!

2.25 is factory and from most reports and some math is ideal for a stock 4.0. 2.5 will be louder and deeper at the cost of reduced low end torque and increase in upper end HP. We are talking single digit changes. If you're going to have a shop weld it up you may as well get them to make a better down pipe than the Walker.
Decide what size pipe you want and buy the corresponding cat and muffler.
Nothing wrong with Walker stuff. They are decent non performance oriented parts.

Thank you that is a perfect response for me. I think I'll stick with the 2.25 then as I don't really care up a few digits up top; most of my driving is in the lower RPM range anyway.Originally Posted by Tsaani97xj

I have the walker components when I redid mine. I used the magnaflow high flow cat with the walker quiet muffler. Sounds stock---ish, but the butt dyno feels a little improvement.

Save yourself the aggravation.
Definitely easiest way. I ended up having to take mine to get the connections welded anyway. Should have just taken all the pieces up there and had them do it from the get go.Originally Posted by Jeep Driver
