Part swap from 88' xj to 96' xj
Hello,
Read your response about part compatability among xj models. Now I have a 88' xj and I want to buy a 96' Cherokee manual 5speed. Now from the 88 to the 96 I want to transfer ALL of the interior including the steering wheel. Under the hood I want to move over the fuel injectors as well as the 6" lift kit and 33" wheels. Now if in fact I can't make all these transfers from the 88 to the 96; what other models can I successfully make these part swaps?
Look forward to hearing your opinion y'all
Thank you

the 88 uses the Renix FI system, and I'm not sure the injectors or other stuff will transfer over easily.
I also have an 88 Pioneer (380k on the odo & still driveable) & a 96 Sport (166k on the odo & my DD) myself.
Lift & wheels should swap over fine, but going from auto to manual - some lifts are different or won't work with manual transmissions - so do some research 1st
- make sure the transfer cases are the same (if you swap tcases, you may have spline count issues as well as wiring to sort out)
Most interior parts should swap over as well, but below are some exceptions I know of:
- unless the 88 was a manual, you'll likely have to use the 96 console
- the 96 seats mount differently, so swapping seats won't work without modifications
- the airbag in the 96 may give you issues with swapping steering wheels over as well (88 had no airbags)
- if the t-cases aren't the same, you could have shift pattern issues if you swap consoles (see above)
have fun, & good luck

Thank you for your response that helps!
Alright I've got another question:
Now owning an 88' XJ what year should I be looking for if I do in fact want to transfer over All interior including the steering column as well as suspension? Keeping in mind the jeep I will be swapping over to has a manual transmission.

Steering wheel - something prior to 95, as that's when they added air bags
Center console - you'll have to stay with the same t-case & probably transmission type.
Not sure on when the seat mounts changed
The renix system was only on 87-90 jeeps, so if you want to stay with that......
