I was just wondering what peoples choices on what they have or want to get on their XJ are; brand, weight rating, ect..

Looking for a dependable winch? A Warn winch is probably the most dependable winch out there. I run a HS9500I on my Cherokee, but I think an 8000 lb to a 10000 lb winch would be perfect. Just make sure you get one with at least 80 foot of cable or winch rope.

I have been well pleased with my Superwinch Talon 9.5i. It has winched out several 3/4 ton trucks and a few Jeeps no problems. One thing I looked for was a winch that held up to being submerged often as I cross quite a few creeks where we wheel at most of the time. The Superwinch claims to be waterproof and has not given me any problems from being under water a lot of times.

I have a Mile Marker SEC8 (8,000 pound) that I have had for years, never really had a problem. My newest is a Quadratec 11,000 pounder that works good as well. I think it's just a rebadged Mile Marker though. Warn has a good reputation but, I have never been able to afford one. One of the major 4WD mags did a good winch comparison a while back and a no-name winch had a better score than all the brand name ones.

Runvas are great too (Canadian) from experiences through friends/family. I have and engo and have had 0 problems with my winch- Here is a shootout

Depending on what is important to you (pull speed, underwater, etc) that should give you some ideas.

I considered a lot of different ones but after checking found that most are made in China and parts can not be guaranteed to be available for any set amount of time if repairs are needed after warranty.
Some that are mentioned here are that way I had one ordered online from a dealer (big one) their brand then called them the next day and started asking questions about it. It was a lot of winch for the money and looked good but I canceled the order started looking again.
I finally narrowed it down too 2 winches the Warn and the Superwinch Talon 9.5i. Feature for feature the Superwinch was the best buy for the buck. It had 4 things going for it that the Warn did not have 1. a 2 yr warranty over Warns 1 yr., 2 the Superwinch was waterproof not the Warn, 3. The Warn charged extra for the upgraded remote switch that came std. with the Superwinch, 4. Last but not the least price Warn was highest priced of about all winches yes they are good winches no denying that and top rated.
This was JMHO but I did research it for about 4 months.

I carry 2 brands on my site, neither of them is Warn.
I had them on my site for a long time...and never sold a single one.
I've been tossing around the idea of adding Ramsey winches....but they are expensive as well. Probably not going to happen.
Sold plenty of Rugged ridge winches with only 1 reported problem....a broken bolt (cable retainer at the drum, still usable though). Sold a some Smittybilt winches too, no issues as of yet.
