One tones and 40s. Imput needed
So my faithful xj that has treated me well silence I bought her stock almost exactly 1 year ago was introduced to a fire hydrant by me last night

Damage:
Both uppers bent (stock)
All control arm mounts either bent, twisted or snapped
Yoke got ripped apart by my awsomely strong offroad u joints
Shock is shot
Track bar end twisted
Rim smashed up
Plans:
Since I have 2 jeeps (86 jeep comanche 2.5 5 speed 2wd) I'm going to put the comanche on the road and save gas because school is 30 minutes away 5 days a week, I want to rebuild it bigger and better,
One ton axles
40s
Long arms
Bigger lift
Repaint
Tube fenders and rear stinger
Lots more
So I need your input, any build threads or help on what kind of axles I should use, how to fab up long arms and where to mount them etc, anything that will help me educate myself on the matter
Right now she looks like this, while front end out,

Do you really want full width axles? If you go down to a 38s you could get away with jeep width dana 44s front and back. The front you can get a 80+ wagoneer rear you can get isuzu rodeo dana 44 and both are really close to stock width.

Depends on the terrain you have really.
We have a lot of hills. Guys with 40's and anything less than a modified v8 just can't hang.
Its funny to watch a wrangler or xj on 33's out wheel a buggy on 40's. LOL
Not every time mind you. The monster rigs have their advantages. Its just that bigger some times is worse.

To the op. I would look into a set of Currie axles or custom built yota axles. To me 14 bolts and 60's/70's are a cheap hill billy way to go about it.
Yes its 5 grand more but your tires will be 3 grand. May as well do it right. Then there is hydro steering, etc.... You are just opening up a whole can! LOL

Cheap? They are neither cheap in price or quality. You could get a ball joint 60 & Sterling rear for about $800. A king pin 60 is $1000 & a 14 bolt around $150-$300. then you have to re gear & go thru the things.
Toy axles are strong for what they are but are not one ton axles.
60 front & 14 rear would be great.

I think you have a screw loose.

currie and other custom built axle assemblies suck. My buddy runs a currie 9" front and a rock jock 60 rear in his XJ. nothing but problems with them leaking (they are not that old) and currie won't do much about it.
I'd much rather build a set of axles myself and know that i did the work right while saving money. there is nothing hillbilly about building a 60/60 or 60/14b combo yourself, as long as you do it right. i encourage you to venture over to the pirate4x4 Cherokee section
Yea I'm not doing this anymore, I don't have the money, time or space necessary to do it, I'm just going to replace what's broke and use the control arm mounts and yoke from my spare dana 30. One day I will do what I want to an xj but for now I want it back to where it was. Comanches are fun but I know my xj like the back of my hand and it treats me well, I need it back on the road ASAP.
