I am curious to find out what people are getting for total lift height with the 1.5" old man emu lift kits with medium or heavy springs.

Reason I ask is I had ome lift on my JK and the 2.5" netted 4" when installed. I loved the kit and it performed awesome...now I want one for my 96 xj.

Looking to run 31" tires.

Not sure, but for what its worth I plan on getting 2" (listed as 2.25") medium duty OME leaf springs. I will use an adjustable lift shackle to get the additional height needed to run 31's, but plan to install the leafs first and see how high it sits.

That's what I was thinking.....new shackles and possibly small coil spacers in the front to get the extra lift height. Im more concerned with ride quality than height.

Honestly I haven't seen anyone on here running 1.5" leafs. Try searching "ome springs" and you'll find some discussion on them. Find someone who's running them and PM them your question, might be the best bet.

I have the standard front coils and the HD rear leafs and net 2" on the money for both when empty. Granted right now my rear is only netting about 1" but I'm hauling my winch/stowage mount in the back and my drawer with probably 100# of gear in it.

You're only netting 1" even with the HD's? I understand you have some weight in the back, but still. Hmm... I was considering the medium duties, not so sure now.

as I understand on the OME's medium & heavy duty are about the same, function-wise, however the HD springs have a helper spring in them that keeps them from flattening out at a certain point....

You have to keep in mind that the initial spring rate for the HD springs is actually LIGHTER than the light duty springs! Do the research and you'll find this to be true, which is one reason I chose the HD springs because I wanted a plush ride. They are called HD because they have the overload spring on the bottom of the pack.



I also have this in the back so it squats the suspension down. The drawer is heavy, the stuff inside is heavy, the winch is heavy, and the winch mount is heavy. lol

That's what I meant. I'd recommend medium duty.

Oh okay, I knew this was the case for the "stock" Crown made XJ springs, but I didn't know OME also used the lighter rate with the overload for the HD.

Tell ya what though, I love my suspension. I can run snowmobile trails pretty easily at 30-40 mph. Video is boring but it gives you an idea of how well the OME suspension soaks up the crap on a rough road/trail.

Here is my long term plan:

Medium duty OME leaves
Keep my RC adj shackle
Relocation boxes. HD or FST low pro ones. Not sure which yet.

So they consensus is that you do have 2" out if the packs once broken in?

I got 2" out of my leaf packs, but I can only speak for the HD leaves.

I think that they're listed as 2.25" on their website and come that way and settle at 2"...that's just what I'm guessing since they're referred to as 2" springs, not 2.25". Anyways, I'm going with the medium duty 2" springs with adjustable shackles to get up to 4" or so...
