is it ok to remove the hood pad? I am planning to make some hood vents...

I think the pad is to keep heat from damaging the pain on the hood... but does it REALLY get that hot?

I believe it is for noise suppression as much as anything. I have removed hood pads from drag cars without ill effects. I have also used normal auto paint on engine blocks and valve covers and it works well. I think you will be OK removing it.

My 99 doesn't have one. Paint looks fine on the hood.
