Check to see if you rear driveshaft is going to bind, chock the front wheels, jack up under the rear diff enough to get the wheels off the ground, put the truck in neutral. You should be able to turn the shaft pretty easily by hand and youll be able to feel and see if its getting into bind.

My yoke was coming out pretty far, I put the tc drop in and now it's back to normal.
Based on my experience, it would probably be not a good idea to drive like that.

Every jeep is different, You'd be surprised about how much of a difference a new tranny mount would make, Some of my buddies are running 4.5in with no sye and no tc drop but then again some are. The majority of the problem is going to be at the output shaft of the transfer case and where the drive shaft u-joint connect. Remember when you flex the angle is going to get worse

My '89 had about 5" in the rear with no SYE, though I did end up getting an extended driveshaft...after having mine actually fall out after hard braking once (the braking was enough to pull the rear axle backwards enough for the slip yoke to fall off lol)

My '99 has about 4.5" in the rear and aside from some bad vibrations it works just fine.

this might be the first time I have seen the words "bad vibrations" and "it works just fine" in the same sentence

^^^^ WOW! Ok so consensus as far as the community is concerned you will be better off in the long run by doing the SYE. Just my .02.

some jeeps will need it some won't... my cherokee is at 5.5" with just a 1inch t case drop and it is fine. I have the sye kit and will prob install it sometime to get the drive shaft angle as close to stock as possible. If i were you i would mesure the angle b4 the lift and then after if the differences are to bad then put the sye on but if not see if you can turn it by hand and if so take if for a test drive.
