Default Oil catch can

Ok so I have been having lots of trouble with my ccv system. I replaced all the parts removed and cleaned valve cover. I still had oil coming out of the front grommet. It wasn't much mind you but it ran down the back and fumigated the cab. That was no good. Here are some pics of my solution.

I left the back grommet in the stock form.

for the front I bought another blank grommet. And a right angle vacuum fitting for it

For the next part I used some clear hose and a catch can from a mightvac.that was.broke.

The other port on the catch can be routed back in to the intake via a vacumm fitting, I had extras since I did away with my stock airbox.

Pretty basic idea it works very.drips.the oil into the can vapors get recirculated. It.could even be adapted to the stock airbox using larger tubing.

You don't have a high idle now?

that is not supposd to get vacuum at idle it should go to cold air tube like factory was the cans not a bad idea but you have no way for crank case pressure to escape on acceleration and under loads just saying....factory set up

I did this before. Had high idle...had to put in a little ball valve to get my idle to come down. It worked, for a while.

So your saying that under load it wont get out the tube the same way the oil does? Where is that the blue line you drew across the top going ? I may have some hoses missing the reason I had to do away with the stock airbox is because it was missing hoses and the lid. Is there a third hose im needing to Tie in somewhere?

Ok after consulting the shop manual I found the broken off vacuum or breather hose by the fire wall and connected that and the hose coming out of the can into my filter.

Nice little setup there. Somewhere on the interwebs I saw some pics of a guy that did the same thing, but placed a divider down the majority of the canister and loaded it up with what looked sorta like steel shavings or steel wool. The material formed a crude filter that caught a lot of the oil that was sorta vaporized before it hit the intake.

I can't really tell the routing from your pics but I believe this is the way it *should* work on the post-RENIX years:

Air filter -> tube -> open elbow at front of valve cover -> plenum in valve cover -> small orifice elbow at rear of valve cover -> tube -> magic oil catching canister -> tube -> hose fitting -> intake manifold

The idea is that gasses get sucked in and burned, and the small orifice prevents a high idle. As long as the engine is running there should always be vacuum present at that small orifice/rear elbow. If there isn't, then the hose or a fitting is probably clogged and you'll likely get oil spurting out near the filter.

yeah, thats what i was alluding to earlier. looks good. its good that you hooked up the evap line again. i took mine off after a while cause i kept getting idle fluctuations. mine only came off the back though. i left the front alone and basically put the can between the rear metered orifice and manifold using the ball valve to meter as i said before. but the ball valve kept getting plugged up, so its back to stock for now...

well I put 50 miles on it it worked great and I had some droplets of oil in the bottom of the can So it works for what I wanted keeping the oil out of my air filter and off the top of the valve cover.

(i did this for the home brew mod section, i got the idea from a diesel mechanic)

Slobber can. Fix's the oil soaked air filter cheap! All it takes is a an old oil quart bottle or I used a 20 ounce pop bottle, and a about 6-8 inches of rubber hose and A few clamps. I dremaled out a hole big enough for the hose in the lid and poked a few breather holes so the crank case can vent. Then close off the back with what ever method you deam useable. Sorry no pics and whenever it needs dumped out simply unscrew the cap and pull the bottle ad pour it out. No more oil soaked filter!
