You have a LP D-30(low pinion) The low pinion D-30 is not as strong as a HP D-30. If you go above 33's swap out to a HP D-30 when you re-gear.
A dead giveaway that you have a D-35 rear is if you have ABS. ABS was never used on the 8.25.
If you look at your differential and you see a flat bottom under the cover then you have a 8.25, its very noticeable.

i looked it up just a minute ago. it is an 8.25. 29 spline. so thats good.
why does the low pinion make the d30 weaker? i know pinion angle isnt as great but ive been running 33s for a long time and have seen no problems with my LP D-30

I have a 94 Cherokee with hp30 in front and 8.25 in rear with 3.55 gears. I ham lifting 6.5 longarm and gunna run rather 33 or 35 what gears would I need as this is my dd and trail rig?
Do it once and be done, 4.88's, do a full case locker in the front as well. The D-30 stock carrier is weak(ask me how I know) and you will have to buy a new carrier anyway due to the gear change, might as well get a full case Detroit or ARB.

I believe it was explained like this-
The LPD30 is 30% stronger in reverse.
The HPD30 is 30% stronger when going forward.
