NSG370 No cruise control
1996 Cherokee XJ SE
I recently swapped my AW4 for a NSG370 and now the cruise control isn't working. The light on the bottom of the wheel turns on when I press the On/Off switch but when I press Set Coast it doesn't do anything
I did send the PCM to get reprogrammed by WranglerFix
Checked the vacuum lines they are all good, I couldn't hook my peepers on the front vacuum ball near the headlight but the cruise control was working fine before the swap. I swapped the brake light switch it's fine. Fuses look fine. I've checked the wiring under the dash, it's all good. Im stumped, anyone done a manual swap and had cruise control stop working. Also its the older style steering wheel with buttons at the bottom, I sprayed them with electronic cleaner and no beano.

I would think it has something to do with the speed sensor but your speedometer must be working, right?
Hopefully, somebody comes along with more knowledge of the NSG370 to help you along!
Would love to see a thread on the swap, what you were expecting and what worked and didn't work, etc when you are done!

I believe the speed sensor is on the transfer case, my old transfer case was a np242, the one that was attached to the nsg370 is a np231. The speedo is about 15 km/h off.
Everything else works fine, I did have to get a crank position sensor reallocation kit. The CPS on a nsg370 is on the right hand side, middle of the bell housing, so i had major clearance issues with the transmission tunnel, i'm talking 2 inchs just to get it in and if I ever wanted to replace the CPS I would have to drop the transmission just to get it in.

I swapped out the speed sensor with the one that was in my AW4, still no good. At least now my speedo reads the same as it was pre-swap. If anyone else is interested in a write up I will do one, I will say the reason I did the swap was that I got a good deal on the transmission and I could not find a AX15 or NV3550 in Australia for sale.
So i just had a thought. My NSS is currently bypassed since I dont have a clutch safety switch. I need the NSS bypassed when I started the car, but this would mean the car is telling the computer that its in neutral or park. If I installed a switch so that I could turn off the bypass after the car has started than the computer should go into a failsafe mode where the car will think its in drive and the cruise control should work. Just a theory that I will test on the weekend. Anything bad that might happen if I do this?
That worked! I have cruise control and a bonus killswitch/why the f*** wont my car start switch. So for anyone in the future. I wired a switch where you would normally just twist the 2 wires together to trick the PCM that it is in neutral/park, so you can start the car. From my understanding, if the PCM has no wires coming from the NSS, the PCM defaults to drive, allowing you to use cruise control. Flip the switch to start the car (This tells the PCM its in neutral/park) flip it back to drive the car(this tells the PCM its in drive).
Its kinda jank and the only other solution I can think of is getting a momentary switch and putting it at the bottom of the clutch so the car only starts when the clutch is engaged.
Hope this helps someone!
