Yes, but it's not reliable as 231. For use as full time I rather go and find a Lada niva, full time 4WD, it's transfer case design, wich is a differential with a manual locker to send equal traction to both diffs, is the matrix where most of full time 4wd's vehicle manufacturers took it design and performance to build their own t-cases.
Whatever you may think, regardless the functionability and performance comparison between 231 and 242, I rather go on 231 for reliability and strenght before using a 242.

It's your opinion and preference to use the 231.
Not fact, like you stated first off that the 231 was way stronger than the 242......

And it is, I broke one doing the same thing I've been doing with the 231, same road, same hills, It broke, 231 never has to.

Simple, want a stronger t-case, invest in adapters and Dana 20, 300 or even other NP model or even an atlas.
I stay with 231. No problems at all.
