np242/249 main shaft for sye in 88 np231?
i just read on some older thread that SYE kits for the np231 are just the main shaft from a 242/249 "hacked-n-tapped" to fit the 231. i have a 249 in good condition sitting in storage. could i just take the main shaft from the 249 to the machine shop & have it fixed up to work as an SYE in my 88 w/ a 231? would i also have to source out the rear housing? is it even possible?
