Default np231 SYE leak

Ive read through a ton of threads on this problem but mines unique. I just swapped out my 242 for a 231 that already had a SYE installed. All went well until I filled it with fluid and now its leaking. No problem right? Should be able to reseal it. Its leaking where the sye cover bolts to the transfer case. When I got the cover off, I discovered that the idiot that installed the sye obviously was impatient and tried to remove the original with a chisel and warped it. So now gasket maker wont seal it off all the way. Anyone had this problem before I resort to spending money on another transfer case?

You could replace just the cone and/or the rear half of TC shell.

That would be the most economical thing to do. Its looking like that's what im going to have to do.

It can be done with TC installed in jeep. Will need a quality pair of snap-ring pliers.

Now that I have a 242 TC, I love it! Installed a SYE on it 3 years ago.

I would try permatex ultra grey and let it cure over night before filling. That stuff works crazy good.

That's why I never buy that kind of parts from people I don't know, you never know what they may have or have not done to something. But Jez that's really stupid to beat on it that bad till he destroyed it.

As Steve said just replace the back half of the case but before you go chasing one down check to see if the idiot even installed the SYE properly or damaged the transfer case any other way.
