Just curious what some of your opinions are of this noise I started experiencing today. I installed 4.88 nitro gears and install kit along with a nitro install kit and Lokka lunchbox locker on Saturday. I've been driving it ever since, every day 5 to 15 miles a day. Until today, I hadn't gotten much above 45 mph. Today I got on the freeway and from about 50 to 65-68 mph, I hear a fairly loud drone/growl type of noise. The noise only happens with a load and on the throttle, totally goes away when coasting. the higher the load, the louder the noise. Much above 65, almost totally quiet.

Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated. It seems strange to me that it's quiet except for under the conditions mentioned.

The only part of the gear install that I am questioning is how tight I tightened the side adjusters for the carrier as I did not have the correct spanner and there's no spec ,per say, of how tight they need to be. I did however tap them pretty tight with a punch.

Yep you will proly have that growl now for ever. Did you pay to have the gears set up or did you do it yourself.? Sounds like the gears did not get set perfect. roar is metal on metal. The damage has most likely already been done so you will either have to deal with it or replace the gears. My info came from an old timer mechanic and he may be completely wrong for all I know.

Holy crap....

The internet is full of write-ups on regearing the Chrysler 8.25.
The adjuster tool can be purchased from any Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge stealership or made in your shop using a spare 36mm hub nut.

And there are plenty of places on the WWW to get the correct spec's and torque values as well.

I'd start over from scratch, hopefully you haven't ruined your bearings.

I found tons of write ups, i didn't see any with a torque spec for the side adjusters.

If they are roaring more than likely the damage is done. You may get them to quiet down some but not completely.

I appreciate you laughing at my hard time.

Apparently you can't read because i see nowhere in that writeup that says a torque spec for the adjusters, just some guy snugging them down with a big stick.

Apparently you and I have the same googler. I do appreciate your effort to make me look like a ******* though.

I actually popped the rear cover off last night and the backlash is still in spec (.008") and the pattern looks good. The fluid looked good too, no huge metal chunks or anything. I didn't have time to pull the carrier so I guess that'll have to wait for when I have more time. I'll have to drive my truck in the mean time.
