Default no electric fan

can i drive my 1997 xj with no electric fan temporally and i wont use the AC ?

The electric fan's job is to cool the condenser for the AC system. Cooling the coolant is it's secondary job so it won't matter if it works or not unless you're trying to use AC. So answer to your question is yes. If you have overheating problems your electric fan won't do anything to really stop it.

My wife's XJ has not had an electric fan in years. That said, we live in Ontario, and the jeep sees only occasional light trail use.
Depends heavily on actual usage and the awareness level of the driver.

Plenty of 5 speed XJ's without A/C came without an electric fan, as long as your fan clutch is in good shape and you aren't towing or climbing mountains you should be fine.
