Ok the thing is I bought this Jeep and of course have been going thru it fixing small things and getting it back to being mechanically sound and I have well first things first it needs tires but I'm not buying tires then lifting it and getting another new set so upon my Initial inspection it needed 02 sensors 2 rear shocks a sway bar link and rear leaf springs and my question is I was gonna go with a 2 in lift but seeing how I need shocks and rear leafs I'm going to go ahead and get a 3in lift with the rear leafs and front coils new but I've read about driveline vibes and SYEs so with my above build sheet would a 3 in lift need a SYE and t case drop kit or one or the other I am asking cause like I said it will be a daily driver and it's my only insured legal ride.
Sorry for the long post and please avoid being negative and nasty I'm here to BS like everyone else and I don't take kindly to disrespect I will show you respect if you show me some. Ya give ya get 👍👍
Thanks all and I'm glad to have finally joined the gang

you might need one or the other, not both. T-case drop should be used as a temporary solution. SYE is a permanent solution.

Hi Zack, welcome to CF and congrats on your XJ!

Since this is your dd, my advice is to be prepared to install an sye (or h&t) to negate driveline vibes. You may not need it, but, at least you'll be prepared and save yourself some unnecessary headaches/frustration through downtime.

It seems as though there's no real consistency to the issue of driveline vibes and 3" lifts from my experience and many other XJ owners. Some will vibe at that height and some will not. I used the exact same components and brands on my '97 and my '98 (when it had 3"). The '97 was flawless but the '98 was a problem child so I had an sye installed.

I would strongly recommend replacing the motor mounts and transmission mounts if they are worn.
They are critical components to smoothing out driveline vibes by keeping the driveline angles in proper relationship.

Also check the driveshaft u-joints for wear and replace as necessary. I personally would have the shafts rebalanced too.

Thanks guys, alright I can tell you that motor mounts are virtually new not sure about tranny mounts, u joints have play u can feel when going from park to drive or reverse I also live up North (rust belt) the exterior is awesome however get underneath different story. And I didn't know t case drop was a bandaid I'm not looking to mask I'm looking to fix and or do it right so onto the sye kit how much do they usually run and the install doable I'm fairly handy when it comes to wrenching only bad part is no garage lol.

Zach, I would recommend replacing the trans mount and ds u-joints.

As far as price for sye I bought mine from Advance Adapters for ~ $189.00 iirc. I had it installed by a reputable shop in North Texas for ~ $800.00. This included completely overhauling the transfer case and it functions smooth as silk even with the poorly designed stock linkage.

While diy is certainly an option I would recommend pulling the transfer case out to do it and be prepared to maybe replace range fork pads, chain and seals.

If this is your dd you may want to make arrangements for transportation just in case you run into any unforeseen issues.

And if this is a northern vehicle soak every fastener several days in advance of any work you perform.
