Just recently picked up a jeep. 98 cherokee, guy said it has a 3.5" lift already installed. I picked up a cheap set of 33/12.50's with a 15x10 wheel. It's currently sitting on 33/12.50's but with stock wheels. I haven't installed them yet but I figure they will rub by assumption. My question is how big a lift do you guys think I'll need to clear these things? Not sure on the BS of the wheels either! Won't let me upload pics for some reason.

 

I think 4" of back spacing is the norm for what you want to do.

 

More lift won't help you clear the same size tires on larger wheels... Different backspacing will effect whether or not the wheels rub.

Ok that makes more sense. Lol. I've been wanting to move to a 4.5" lift cause I didn't want them to seem so "stuffed" in there. I seen hickatron's (I think is right) jeep running the 4.5 with 33/12.50's with 15x10 as well. Just didn't know if I would have to do any trimming, etc.

 

If you're going to the 4.5 get a long arm. The short arms will make it ride like a dump truck.

 

That what I've heard. She doesn't ride the best right now either tho. Just kinda hard to save when I'm so anxious to just get her the way I want. I may go ahead and get the short arms and do the long arm upgrade in the future tho

Serious off road has a legit long arm system that has a reasonable price tag.

 

Not big on the belly pans. Would be hard to do a trans fluid and filter change.

I don't do a whole lot of wheeling. Just some playing around on the weekends It'll be my DD for work, so if I can tolerate the ride I may be ok. Lol. I was thinking of runnin the RC x-series 4.5. Any opinions on them?

 

Most people will tell you the RC stuff is crap, with that being said lots of people still run it. It really depends what your trying to do, if you plan on going crazy wheeling, get a great kit. If it's a street princess then it won't matter. If you're going to do some light wheeling then invest in a good short arm kit, or an entry level long arm kit. One thing I see people who have been doing this for awhile is less lift with bigger tires = better performance. Probably due to lower center of gravity when crawling/trailing. Btw I know there is a nice 30 min install of that lift kit done by RC on YouTube. If you want to check it out and see it flex and some light off road work.

I'll def check that video out. I think/hope that the RC kit I mentioned above will suit all of my needs or wants from it. Seems like it has mixed reviews but mainly positive and that what I'm looking for. It'll be a few weeks before I'll be able to upgrade my lift but I think that, that's the one I'm set on for now. And the fact that I live about 30 mins from the RC HQ is a plus! Lol.

 

4.5 inch longarm lift, 4 inch bs. Looks perfect and functions great!
