Hey guys i have Rusty's 4.5" springs and my shackles are hitting the unibody. I've done a little searching but haven't found an answer.
I was thinking about just drilling a new hole in my stock shackle box like 1.5" forward of the stock hole, and reusing the stock shackle. Basically just get enough clearance at the rear of the unibody.
Has anyone done this? Or would it be a bad idea?

you'd have to drill 3 holes per side. actually a decent sized one on the inside of the frame rail to reach in there to get a new nut on. the stock shackle box is scary thin and you're talking about removing even more material. I'll look at my jeep tomorrow and see if this is possible. I don't really see a nice shiny new grade 8 bolt and a new hold really hurting much
where is it hitting the unibody exactly?

Won't work unless he uses a big spacer or washer. as the section that the nut is welded is not flush with the frame as the rest of the shackle box is. Take a look and you'll see what I mean

order some aftermarket BENT shackles or do a relocation box. As said above you really want to avoid doing thing that could weakening an already weak unibody. Now if you were to say weld some stiffening/reinforcing plates down there you could do new mounting holes through the plates, I guess.

I wouldnt do it either. I would go with shackle relocators. Like Demonoid369 said he would need a nut or a spacer of sorts there. You would also need to cut the front part of the box and deal with trying to place and hold a nut within the unibody. I just did an install of shackle relocation brackets this weekend on my jeep I have some TNT Boomerang shackles leftover since I used the OEM shackles. BTW where is it hitting exactly?

yeah I went and looked at it. it's a no go. couldn't remember if that spacer off the frame was just on the front or not

It's hitting here. I did put on extended shackles. It does not hit anymore even flexed but it did add an inch or so of lift which was OK. I'll put a pic of the new shackles today when I get home.
