New gears backlash question

I got my new gears installed but I need to know how much play I'm supposed to have if at all? There is a bit of play when I turn the pinion..

4.56 gears
8.25 rear end

Engine: 4.0 with all of the noise and clatter

At the gears there should be about .005-.010" and backlash, but it feels like a lot more at the driveshaft.

So not a whole lot then...I definitely have more than that...time for some adjustment

do you have a dial indicator? you should or it may never be right!

and yes it feels like a lot at the pinion compared to the ring gear.
