Default New Exhaust Burning? Scared to drive.

Hey, I just installed my performance curve/flowmaster catback today and after taking a short cruise I smelt something burning so I look under my car and the pipe has smoke coming from it. I immediately turned off the xj. Not sure what this could be...anyhelp? Thanks, Rob

Parking brake cables laying on the exhaust? Causes a nasty amount of smoke and smell!

I think it is close to it but its coming from the pipe itself and all sections not the muffler though, I was thinking that it could be because its residue from the exhaust and its just being broken in?

a lot of exhaust parts have a light oil on them for storage and transport, it should burn off in a couple days

I've had a few exhaust systems do that when I first install them, I've always been told that it was the grease from your hands, and chemical treating they use on the pipe burning off

I just installed the same exhaust a week or so ago and it smelled for about 3-4 days no major worries, at least on my end but still make sure nothing is rubbing on the exhaust, doesn't hurt to double check

I know I get smoke from my exhaust because my rear main seal drops onto the pipe.

I could be wrong but, it could just be the "new" burning off. Whenever we get new cars in at the dealership, they get a run to the gas station (about 3 miles away) after the initial inspection and always come back smelling like burnt metal

X2 also if your valve cove cover is too loose it will leak a lot more oil and end up there haha
