That was sweet sounding little3 stroker.
Wish I had a clip of my Wagon with the 3 1/2" Dr. Gas Exhaust setup and SpinTech Race mufflers I run. It runs in a street class/drag radial 10.5 class. When I run it on the street or on a grudge race night at the track its really quiet compared to just cars with headers open. I love racing all the factory 500+ HP cars who laugh at the old Wagon with a V-8 in it....Till it comes time to pay up.

I am not sure what Flowmaster came with my Jeep but it sounds awful. Is there any way to know? There is nothing on the bottom to say "40", "44", ... I do agree, they are tough. I am going to try a Magnapack #10416 when I do the exhaust.

You could measure it. I think they have different external dimensions.

I don't know what's rattling around inside it, maybe the remnants of some previous owner's catalytic converter. I cut the muffler off tonight.

With the muffler off whatever it is seems to roll around. Who knows.
I am able to get the new cat and muffler to sit up nicely inside the frame rail like my 01 XJ.
This 97 had a transfer case drop and the exhaust looked crappy before and after I removed it. They basically welded the cat going on a downward angle and crooked and then the muffler on an upward angle. Since the Flowmaster was shorter than the factory exhaust a 4" section was welded in at an upward angle also. The exhaust mounts were all ovalled out and what didn't rattle clunked.

I like a quiet muffler setup on my XJ as I hunt out of it in the National Forest and don't want to scare everything in a mile radius. This way I can drive up on wild hogs tearing up the forest floor and they hear nothing till the bang, to late

I just installed a Dynomax cat back on my 01. So far I really like it, no drone and is pretty quiet in the cabin. Before I installed it I painted the whole thing with hi temp paint, so hopefully it will last longer.

I run a Gibson cat back with a high flow cat. It has a nice deep throaty sound when you get on it. When I'm just crawling around it sounds like stock only a bit deeper. I have had it on for about 7 or 8 years and it has held up really well.

I have a flowmaster on one of our 2000 Cherokee's with Precats only and it sounds GREAT been running it for a few years now, another 2000 Cherokee has a Cherry Bomb and sounds good but have yet complete the exhaust out past the rear axle yet or driven it much on the road yet, and my 98 will be getting a one of the after market mufflers I have been given by buddies who installed and hated them... we will see how they work out..... I hate that rice burning annoying sound.... the flowmaster definitely sounds good at idle and taking off and quite when cruising in my opinion....
