Just installed a new security system and remote start in the XJ tonight. It is an Audiovox (Prestige) APS787C. Took about 3.5 hours. $85 on Amazon. Heck of a deal!!
Remote start with selectable run-times of 5, 10, 15, or 20 minutes. It can even be programmed to start itself every 2 or 4 hours and run for a preselected time. I'll use the remote start in this Texas summer heat to pre-cool the interior temps down from "flash fry a Water Buffalo" to "at least I won't singe my pubes through my shorts". The timed starts would also be really handy for those of you who live in very cold climates. It will keep the motor, oil, and battery warm throughout the night when it gets super cold, and you can have the defrost going in advance.
It has a starter disable, two-stage shock sensor, remote lock/unlock, illuminated entry, multi-vehicle capable, etc., etc.
It also has 4 additional output channels. These will come in really handy later when I wire them up to activate my off-road bumper and roof rack lights remotely (also utilizing my new laser-etched rocker switches from OTRATTW). This will be handy for camping, wheeling, finding the XJ in a big parking lot, or just trying to get the trailer hooked up.
The remotes are a sandwich of chromed metal and plastic. They have a very high quality look and feel, and the metal part is what attaches to your keyring, so that should be pretty durable.
