Need Shock Advice:
'96 XJ Classic Up-Country
I'm resto-modding my XJ. It's been my daily driver since I bought it new in '96. Never been off-roaded. Now I'm going through and fixing all the little things that bug me about it.
I'm on the original shocks. I want a set of really good road shocks, I'm looking at Bilsteins, but man, are they expensive! Is there anything as good or better than them for less?

Tagging for interest. I have a '99 with the equivalent Up Country suspension. Will need shocks eventually especially since the rears are some kind of coil over set up.
I will consider KYB's, maybe Bilstein's when the time comes. KYB used to have a pretty good shock. Not sure if they still do or not.
Mine is not an off-road rig either.

The top two reviews on amazon for the upcountry springs suggest Bilsteins and Monroes as well as all the other bits and pieces necessary for an upcountry suspension.
I bought the Bilsteins and will install sometime this summer.

I was looking at OME but couldn't find anything that they make anymore with minimal lift. They used to make something for keeping it around stock height but discontinued as far as I can figure tell.
Do you have a model/part number?

The shocks I used aren't around any more. I got them from DPG, might want to hit him up to see if he has any old stock left.
The newer shocks PN is front: OME-60052, rear OME-60053 are usable for stock to 3 inch lift.

My Bilsteins are nice and smooth on terrible NYC streets on my XJ. Maybe they don't work as well on BUELLIGAN's ZJ.
