Default my xj and which lift

I have s 2001 xj sport 2wd I6 4.o. this will eventually be converted to 4wd. My main question is which lift and what company makes a good kit. I want do an 8 inch lift. I have read alot of people feel 4.5 inch is more than enough. I know it is opinion but would like to hear what you guys chose and why.

If you're making a rock crawler 4.5" is perfect, 6.5" is tall. 8" is very excessive, good for mudding

If you are set on going that tall, I would get the best components out there and piece a lift together. RE would be ok for coils, maybe Clayton or BDS for leafs (definitely not RC). I'm at 4" now and think it's just about right, but you know better than I do about what you will be wheeling.

Keep in mind that the taller you go, the more you have to replace/upgrade. Just thinking out loud here, track bar, steering, gears (depending on tire size), shocks, brake lines, control arms, driveshaft, etc. Once the conversion is complete you will need an sye as well. Do tons of research, and then do some more. There are a lot of folks on here with vast experience that will help you.

While you're at it, may as well go long arms since those short arms won't cut it anymore. I just ordered mine from Frank (Serious Offroad) today. Can't wait to get them (insert subtle hint for Frank here)!!!

The best thing I can tell you is find a 4wd donor first. I am in the middle of my conversion now, it is "simple", but make sure you plan on doubling your budget and tripling your time that you're planning.

Good luck! I'm interested to see how it turns out.

I can tell you that you are probably not read financially or knowledge wise to correctly do an 8 inch lift.

Great advice from all so far and thanks. I will continue to look forward to your comments and assistance. I will also continue my reasearch. I am probably going to do the switch to 4wd first.
