If this was something worthwhile to do, and/or actually worked, you would see it everywhere. Just because you got shocks laying around, doesn't mean you need to stick them on your jeep. Don't try to reinvent the wheel dude...lol.

You will notice the front swaybar being gone more than the rear. Did you honestly notice the body roll when you took out your rear swaybar?
I would suspect that shock placement wouldn't let you articulate as well.
You have many things to consider here:
1. suspension geometry
2. shock type, valving, length.
Imagine the suspension being compressed with the angles you have now. It just doesn't look like it would be smooth. Imagine both sides being compressed at the same time. What is going to happen?

and i havent driven with the rear sway out yet ,only with the front gone.shock valving i shall read on . along with the geometry .
good point

Some people keep it simple. Just trying to save you hours of useless welding, grinding, drilling, then realizing it was a total waste of time and $$$. When you're done and it rides stiff as **** and realize you need four shocks valved for a vehicle that weighs half as much...well, do whatever you want dude. 'Some people' just have to learn from their own mistakes I guess... I wasn't trying to be a dick anyway, sorry man.
i'm just trying to mod the wheels i have

ok so earlier i may have gotten jaring and swaying mixed up. i have a jaring ride . the shocks are stiff makes the truck rock pretty good. when the shocks are being compressed.
so if i got to a better angle like 30 degrees. the shocks dampening force should be less jarring and give more of a softer ride & body motion. the down side is on the street is going to body roll more. i may be re-in stalling the front sway bar and getting disconnects. i am going to change the front shock angle as well to soften the ride front and rear. now to keep the body from rolling as Mr white mentioned shock valving / stiffness will be a determining factor as will my final degree in which i mount my shocks.
the very up right design of the xj shock set up was to make it a bit more avid on the street and stability for highways and road speed cornering. if you notice your rig is shaking up your kidneys and bladder that's why you have to pee ever 5 mins when your wheeling. this is what i been experiencing an haven't liked it. a few hers worth of cutting and tiggin my mounts will, i hope give me more of the ride quality i am looking for. also my last rig was all coil suspension so part of it may be getting used to how leaf springs feel so it could all be just in my head too.

so i shall have measurements tomorrow and a more finalized plan. i will list the angle of the rear shock and the fronts too. then see what i can add if any on the shocks degree.
certainly as i have found out dual shocks would be doing the opposite of what i am trying to obtain.

not sure what suspension setup your running but too me it sounds like your just running ****ty shocks, the shocks that came with my 4.5"RC kit were stiff and bouncy and after they wore out i had lots of sway on/offroad, i then replaced em with bilstiens and no more sway on/offroad it actually rode better than ever, and i dont run a front sway....i also run a roof rack w/spare tire so sway is amplified.
front shocks there aint much your going to be able to do up there unless you start cutting out the wheel well and running hoops.
as for the rears you can buy kits for adjustable shock angles, JKS makes one or heres a guy who made his own https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/re...bracket-72784/ that said you not likely going to get far if you run cheap *** shocks, all the angles in the world wont make a difference without a quality shock.
as for flex off road you shouldnt have any issue at 3" with 31s, im at 4.5" with 32x11.5R15 and i can cram that tire into that well to the point where its rubbed off the well liner.
i think your main issue is just getting used to the rear leafs as opposed to your previous vehicle that ran coils all around.
good luck.

Bilsteins are damn good shocks. i run them on my bmw's . i def have cheap *** shocks.
i think i will go to a sever angle and call it good. i am going up on lift 2 inches and i have 35 inch MTR Kevlar should be here tomorrow . i am absolutely giddy the tire guy even put a 50k tread life warranty on em because i was unsure of them lasting long. i'll ride that pony till it dies!
before i cut the front up i will try a adjustable shock i was out looking at the truck closer and your right the front end is well not friendly for what i want to try and do.
other option is rear coils but that's not cheap and i probl wont do that.
to: every one what is your sus set up and how dose it ride. my xj rides good on the road, off it not so awesome. i have a 3 inch ruff country and drop brackets with a add a leaf in the rear. going to add a 2inch tera flex budget boost in till i can get all new springs.
