Default Megafuse at PDC install help

Hey,
1998 4.0 motor

I'm in the process of trying to upgrade my alternator and battery/alternator cables and have read that I need a Megafuse at my PDC.

Currently mine looks like the first pic in this thread:

It seems like the megafuse just goes between the green wire and the positive is that right? Then I just bolt down the lug to the green wire in that empty space there opposite end of the megafuse? It looks like this person also upgraded that green wire:

Do I need to upgrade that green wire too? I'd rather not unless I need to or will get some huge benefit from it.

I'm pretty new to all this so any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on doing a 160A alternator with 2AWG wire and a 175A megafuse.

The green wire is a fusable link, its designed to fail in an over current situation.

Your fuse will go inline with the replacement cable from the alternator to PDC.

PDC--------Fuse--------Alternator

Thanks for the info and reply. So, it seems that the green wire goes to the PDC so I don't really need to upgrade it then right?

I looked at his cables but for half the price I can just make my own so that's what I'm going to do.

I would make and replace all your cables if you're planning on upgrading. That includes all the grounds.

Alternator to PDC
PDC to Battery (+)
Battery (+) to starter

Fender ground to Battery (-)
Battery (-) to block (near coil)
Fire wall to Head bolt



Also yes, you need to replace the fusable link if youre going to add an inline fuse, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the fuse. The logic behind running a fuse vs a fusable link is that if the fuse fails, you find the issue, replace the fuse and youre good to go. If you burn up a fusable link then youre out of luck until you replace it with another fusable link.

Yeah the plan is to replace all those cables.

Okay that makes sense. So, I'll replace that green wire (fusable link) with my new 2AWG wire I got too, and figure out how to secure a megafuse there. I'm sure once I start to dig in there it'll make more sense I just wanted to have a plan before I tear it apart.

Thanks, yeah that pic helps.

The yellow wire on the left of the pic, attached to the megafuse, where does that attach to? I was looking at mine and I tracked it but it just goes to a wire bundle.

The plan is to upgrade that wire just as you and others have done, I just don't know how far to follow it to replace/upgrade and what it connects to and where etc...

Any help on this would be awesome

The one on the left comes from the alternator. Then from there it goes to the battery.

Default alternator upgrade question

because I'm doing alot up wiring upgrades for power and ground can anyone tell me can I run my power wire from the alternator directly to the battery and then have a 100a fused run from battery to pdc?
I have 2 runs of 1/0 from alt to fuse to pdc and 2 runs of 1/0 from pdc to battery and that tiny post is a bit difficult to get multiple large lugs so my only option now this idea or just make a bussbar
