About a month ago I broke a Rustys lower control arm. The president of the club I belong to was gracious enough to give me a deal on some adjustable arms he had.
First run out with these, I think I may have hit the jam nut on one arms against the axle while articulated causing it to loosen. The other day on the interstate things got wonky and upon stopping and inspectiing things I saw the joint and LCA tube were seperated.
Threads had been pulled right out. Again the club president was gracious and hooked me up with a spare tube he had.
Setting these up, I went with a measurement of 16-3/8, which is what the non broken Rustys arm I had measured out to be.
So now on to the meat and potatoes of my question. Now that I have my XJ back on the road, I noticed that it looks like the jam nut on these adjustable LCAs have the potential of going right up into the axle when flexed, causing the jam nut to potentially loosen when contact is made.
So I'm looking for a pair of fixed arms to have as a back up. I have found a pair I can afford (new).Description says that the measurement from bushing eye center to center is 16-1/4. I'm running a measurement of 16-3/8...is that small difference in measurement really gonna be a big deal?

Would it make a difference to run the tapered end up towards the frame? Wouldn't the arm be just lke installing a stock arm (which is a no go because of the lift) These arms I have right now are straight with the exception of the area that tapers.
