Question on these 'long travel shocks' are we just using shocks designed for larger lifts? If this is the case im wondering if the shock life is decreased from spending more time compressed than it was designed to be. I believe TrollHammer said he was researching this like two years ago lol but never elaborated...maybe he'll chime in

Prett much. The right way to measure for shocks is too flex out your rig and measure the compressed side and fit the longest shock you can in there while compressed, (dont forget to take into account bumpstop compression).

And no, running a shock at a different height does not decrease the life of it.

Excellent. I had a feeling I was over thinking it a bit. Thanks for the quick response as well. You are clearly a low cog guru

doesn't apply to longarms unless you are at an ungodly amount of lift lol.

when you take a straight arm and make it at say close to a 45* angle (exaggerating a bit) the arm will hit the shock mount on the stock Cherokee dana 30. This is why aftermarket companies put bends in thier arms or make the axle end joint/ bushing offset.

Ktm... so your specifically talking about short arms... So you should look for a short arm with a bend in it.... Let me know thanks!

The bend is for tire clearance so they don't rub at full lock. Has nothing to do with height and all that. The eye to eye length is what matters for lift height.

The offset bushing or joint on the axle end is so that your lca doesn't hit the mounting bracket at full droop

What we need is a parts list for running a low cog rig on 33's, 35's and higher, whether it be specific lift kits or pieced together individual parts so there is less confusion to people who have existing lift kits and or want to piece together a low cog setup. I for one have a 2inch budget boost currently and want to run 35's, i have been very hesitant to purchase a lift kit yet because I simply don't know what I need, and I'm damn sure not afraid to chop up my rig. Been there done that.

This is 1/2" coil spacer, v8 grand Cherokee coil springs, stock leaf packs with 1.5" shackle

I was on short arms with shocks for a 4.5" lift

Its not a simple equation. There are alot of different variables that come in to play when putting together any lift kit, not just a low COG one. The biggest variables are usually budget, and the skills of the installer. ie: can they weld? Are they willing to modify a brand new component that they just bought so that it will work better for their purpose? ect.

I could easily put a low cog kit together for ya but I would have to know those answers as well as, what are your intentions for the rig? What kind of wheelin do you do?

First and foremost I have to drive it daily, I want the biggest tires I can fit on the stock axles without having to go full width (yet) and I'm not afraid to trim sheet metal, my rig will be used for camping, trails, and the occasional rock bed.
