Default lots of play in steering.

I've got a lot of play in my steering wheel. I got an alignment and that didn't fix it. Any ideas? Wj is still stock. Haven't put any mods on it yet.

Help us help you...okay?

A much better description of the problem will go a long way toward getting the assistance you are after.

Um I really don't know how to describe it. If the steering wheel it straight I can turn it to about 1 o'clock before my wheels turn. Very loose steering

Have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you had a look at if some steering components are doing more movement Than they should. Check both sides of the steering box along with your pitman arm and tie rod ends

My jeep was like that once. The bolt holding the trackbar to the axle fell out and my jeep just about fell apart from dw.

My 98 had play from about 10 to 2. I replaced/upgraded all the linkages (tie rod, pitman, stabilizer, TREs) and it improved to 11 and 1. So I upgraded the steering gear and that finally fixed it.

If it has alot of miles on it (and all XJs do by now) then it is likely the whole steering system is worn. You may be able to move your linkages manually (I was not able to) but you will be able to see play in your gear box if you are under the jeep while someone else turns the wheel.
