Gluck finding a shop. Im sure if you do its gonna be a significant investment.

V8 XJ makes perfect sense to me. As much as I love the legendary 4.0 a V8 = power, economy, beautiful exhaust sound and coolness all wrapped together. Ill likely never get to a point where a swap is feasible for me but its on the list.

For a trans 4l60 should work fine a 4l80 i think might take some beating on the trans tunnel to fit it.T case best bang for the buck will be a flipped dana 300.Or if you have money to burn stak4x4.com makes a custom dana 300 in either side drop so you don't have to flip it.

Its just like anything automotive related how much money do you want to spend or how fast do you want to go. I went to an ASE shop for a price to do a gear and locker job on my XJ the estimate for the work was $1300 (I had all the parts) went to a 4x4 shop $200 each differential guess where I went. I had a lot more work for them to do on my Jeep and I mean a lot more and the total labor bill was still less than the ASE shop.

I can literally throw together a 400+HP SBC complete for 2.5k and have a lot of times for a street ride or spend well over 90k on a good race motor 1400+HP that will last awhile hopefully you never know depends on the tune, boost will tell the tale on the laptop.

These 4x4 really are just toys and I like them so run what you brung lol just have fun. The nice part you can spend as little or as much as you desire and still have some fun off road, a lot of motorsports you can't do that. Even stock the XJ will travel a lot of off road trails mine did before I started.

Does anyone know any shops that might be able to do the swap down here in the Del Rio/ Larado/ San Antonio area?
We're not local, But If your willing to make a trip down to NM We'd be happy to do it. If you have any questions you can call Four Hills Turbo in Alb, speak to Chris, and he should be able to get you an estimate. Its not gonna be cheap like most are saying but the power will be amazing. I'm starting to gather all the parts to do a 4.7 stroker, full forged internals as I plan to push some boost also.

A guy here in GA will swap a 6.0 in for about 6k I believe. Cuts the harness down himself and is the cleanest work I have ever seen.

Google " NAXJA 6.0"

In the real world ASE does not mean much. It only proves that the guy can pass a test. You can tell more about a shop just by looking at it. If there are lots of junk piled up and the guys look like the cast from The Hills Have Eyes, run away.

whats wrong with junk piled up lol if the shop doesnt have a lot of space its inevitable my boss and i have a lift piled in the corner we havent gotten around to installing yet, the drivetrain out of his v10 dodge ram that we cummins swapped, a vw tdi motor for a customers car, a bunch of slushbox auto parts out of a vw tdi that we are 5-speed swapping, a 4.0 block that will be going off when we do scrap run... but i agree with the ase if someone is good with tests they can pass it

That is not junk, that is crap you can use. Junk is stuff that has no use left in it.

My my some sour grapes here. How many of you are certified? I hold ASE as well as numerous factory certs from General Motors and Chrysler. I would bet those of you that talk the most bull about ASE have never taken the exams.

And a messy shop does not automatically mean anything. I have seen messy old shops that do better work than the cleanest fanciest dealership.
