Looking to do the swap and long arm it at the same time. I have 4.5" now but want to set it up for 5". What size coil overs would I need to get my ride height right. I'm not sure what travel I want to do just yet either. I just started my research so not fimilar with coilovers just yet

 

yeeeaahhh you probably shouldn't get coilovers. total waste unless you've already upgraded EVERYTHING else first

aside from the shear fabrication, shock hoops, etc it will take to install them. why do you think you want coilovers?

 

I have weak springs up front. I want more travel at a low lift is one of the key reasons. I have alot of stuff like 4340s, arbs, also others. I'm building my long arm kit and trusses. Fab work ant the big thing I just want to know what size most people run. I know I need to do the fab work and make my mounts and take measurements first before ordering. But I just want to be in the ball park. I'm looking at 16" travel with 5" uptravel I know they need to be triple rate.

with the few cherokees i have seen running coilovers there is no "what most people run"

 

What axles are you running?
Swapping in coil-overs for an XJ with stock axles just seems like priorities are out of order.

 

Stock housings but I'll prob get a 44 60 up front and 60 in the back and shave them down and get custom axles before the swap. I have two set of Ford 60s already but I'm thinking of going lq4 build and running Chevy drive train. Which ever way I go it'll be awhile I was just curious about the guys that have.

 

Chevy would be the better route for the long run anyway. I even have Rockwells but I don't plan on them. Lol

 

That's depends on way too much.

Typically, you won't attempt to pick springs until EVERYTHING is completely fabricated and set up like you want it. That's pretty much the last step. Not the first step.

 

I am running coil overs, fox 16in, lets get this right you will not be at 5in lift, more like 8-10in my jeep is huge in the front, I have about 5in up travel, and the coil overs are in the engine bay, I will take a pic and show you, dana 60 up front full width only way to go, do t cut down what a waste

I guess u can rise the coil overs up a little, not much, add bump stops, that what's next for mine, I also have limit straps, front fender was cut about 3in and the flare was cut also

 

Nice comparison between the 2 XJ's. I can see mine at 4 1/2" on 33"'s next to yours (Very Nice BTW) would hate to try and keep up on tough trails with you What size tires are you running 37's or 35's?

 

well that gives me a bit more faith. but I'll tell ya 16" is waayyyy too much travel for the front. you'll be looking at a 14" max. setup just looks like a bummer. then you still need bumps and sways sometimes. ORI's just look like an all around better choice unless you plan to race

what are you going to do with the jeep? that'll determine whether you'll want 2.0's, 2.5's, bypasses etc.
sounds like you'll be needing a standard 2.5" with remote resis.
are you linking out the rear eventually? coilovers front and leaf springs rear (unless they're deavers with nice shocks) can feel like pairing a cloud with a wagon wheel.

it's a lot of work and research to get it right

 

37s had 39s but it rubbed to much
