On a 3 or 4 inch lift kinda,Over a 5 inch they are a must to me.

When you break it down its not an extra grand. Depending on how you use your Jeep and what your end goal is for it you'll most likely end up buying control arm drop brackets along with upper and lower adjustable control arms at 4.5" of lift. If you factor in the cost of those to get a dialed in short arm setup then the long arms are worth it all day long. Especially at 4.5" of lift because your arms will be very flat resulting in great road manners and excellent performance offroad.

I just wanted to be able to hanle rough terrain if I have to but I want it to be my daily driver. I want the smoothest ride as possible going 70 mph down the highway and I head long arms are easier on your axle. My budget was 1000$ and I was gonna buy the rough country 4.5 inch x series but that was before I even knew about long arms. So if you could recommend me one under 2 grand that would be great. Thanks for all the help

Don't go rough country. There is a reason they are the cheapest. Look into rubicon express for a long arm lift. I love my short arms from them

idk...too me all the "big name" lift companies produce better short arm kits then long arms.
I would go with a company that specializes in long arms if I'm dropping coin on one. Just my opiniom though haha.

long arms themselves are not the only key to cruising comfortably through rough terrain, but they are a big step in the right direction. there are many different options available You might have to do some google research!

Honest opinion for your DD?
Keep adjustable short arms with 4.5" or less lift on 31's
Upgrade trak bar add some solid shocks and good to go
As others stated rough country isn't your best choice. X2 on the RE kits
Long arms are a must if you do some serious wheeling, but the se's will handle anything up to mildly wild and will perform much better on the road.

You could piece together your own lift for 2 grand or less. Otherwise Rusty's makes a 4.5" long arm kit for around 1,500 bucks, in addition to the suspension my next upgrade would be the steering.

For the price of a proper shortarm build, I'd spend a bit more and go with a long arm setup. Rough Country is absolute trash btw. And LACK is 100% right with upgrading your steering. It'll make a huge difference in driveability once you throw some bigger tires at it.

ive ran short arms on 5"ish lift and with a 3 link, and if i were to build it again, i would go straight to a 3 link. rides so much better in general, not to mention the many much more flexes you'll get on the rocks

clayton is the top name in long arms. look into staangs fab, very similar design. or you can check out TMR for DIY parts.

but once you go long arms, you can't go back to short arms if you were to sell the jeep and want to keep the long arms.
