Dear fabricators,
I'm working on building some long arms for a project and got to wondering why so many kits use heim joints or johnny joints? Why not a rubber bushing? While I am building this rig for off road dominance, I also will be driving it on the road to the destinations. I've been in vehicles with heims, and to me they ride just awful.

I built a set of long arms with stock bushings. Still have them as a matter of fact. They work. The only problem is that the rubber doesn't like the amount of flex you can get with a long arm lifted suspension. Not that big a deal, but a consideration

Oh I see now. So the johnny joints allow for more rotation with the ride quality of rubber. Makes sense.
Also...
Man they're expensive
Thanks for the info!

Almost right. Johnny joints do allow for more flex. But they can be a big harsh if used on both ends. The trick is to use a flex joint on one end and a bushing on the other
