what is a good locker? I have a lock right for the d30 and was thinking of putting a lock right in the ford 8.8 that I got also but I was talking to a guy and he told me there was a locker that when activated it was fully locked and when un activated it was limited slip does anyone know about this locker?

 

hat would be an Auburn ECTED, and it's not a true locker. It does nor mechanically lock the shafts together.....don't waste you're money.

I run them and have installed a lot of 'em for others, more than ARB's. Actually removed half a dozen or so ARB's in favor od the E-Locker.

 

The spline engagement on the spider gear for the ected is laughable, it has a bad habit of stripping axle shaft splines. And as said above it's not a true locker, it still slips when used like a locker should be used

The e locker for the 8.8 also has a habit of being unreliable when rode hard. some even cracking the case

 

Haven't had a single E-Locker come back, 8.8 or otherwise.

Not saying they're bomb-proof, just haven't seen one crack or fail to function.

 

Seen one break on 35s in person, and ofcourse the internet has quite a few cases of the same breakage.

Seems to only be a problem with the 8.8 version though. Not saying they are all going to break like that obviously. But if you're going to be running it hard on 35"+ tires id go elsewhere

 

What actually breaks when that happens?

 

I might just keep this lock right locker for my dana 30 and buy one of these lokka lockers for the 8.8.

any other ideas? good bad?

Why would you invest in a strong rear axle and then skimp on the locker by putting a lunch box locker in it?

Because it is a lunch box locker. Idk, I just fell like if you are putting in a good axle you should get a full case locker. I just bought an 8.8 about a week ago and I an still trying to figure out which locker to put in. It is not going to be a lunch box though. I'd rather buy it once and not have to worry about it.

 

And the Ford 8.8 carrier is the weak link. Replace it with a full case locker.

 

Yea but I only bought the 8.8 because it was $200 and I would have disc brakes my jeep has a c8.25 in it now I got a lock right in the d35 of my wrangler and the clicking doesn't bother me and it's made the jeep go a lot more places.

Here pretty soon once the wrangler sells I am going to do the following to my jeep.
Rubicon express 3.5" rear leafs
Rubicon express 5.5 coil springs
Shackle relocation brackets
Rough country track bar
Bilstien shocks
Ironrock off road long arms
Seriouseoffroad utk steering
Lock right locker up front
Chromoly shafts up front
4:88 gears

Now the reason I am going with all this is because I have had all this before "other than seriouseoffroad steering" and have ran it hard and loved it.

Am I saying that what I listed is the best? No not at all, but I have had it, know ppl who have had it, and seen ppl ride this stuff hard.

As for lokka vs other brand I have thought about wanting Arb locker so that I can have on board air and turn Lockers on and off individually so I can test the new jeep and really get to feel the difference. Also the lunch box lockers cause more stress on shafts which I am going to be pushing the d30 already as it is.

At the same time I do not know if it's a good idea to invest $1000 per axles for lockers that will be used once or twice every 2 months?

So with all that being said I kinda think I just need to know of different brand lockers and your personal exaperience with them?


I think I would kinda prefer an air operated locker so I could have on board air as well.

No not set on lunch box lockers but I do have one for the d30 already.
