off topic:
you have to stay in 4hi or 4lo and it will spin both the front and rear drive shaft(231 or 242 doesnt matter). altho since there is no rear drive shaft you now only have front wheel drive. (non locked it is 1 wheel drive). I was able to drive out (and now around town) just fine in front wheel drive but on the trail i needed a bit of help from the skinny pedal and a winch at time to get me out. see my build thread:

In that picture it looks like the driveshaft got hung up on the rock and snapped, did anything happen to the diff? Just wondering cuz i don't see much relevance in that picture relating to what the OP was askin.

The relationship is, you are more likely to break the rear drive line, (axle wrap causing the pinion to snap a u-joint or the yoke straps, bent or broken rear driveshaft) than you are the front drive line. I have broken now 3 rear driveshafts but am still on the stock front driveshaft. (it broke this time because I got slid over onto the rock). I personally find that locking the front is more benificial and with a soft or a lunchbox locker will not be noticeable in 2wd but will come in handy in 4wheel drive or for when accidents occur on the trail

also locking the D30 is IMHO a better option as the D30 is a tough little axle and you will swap the rears more than you will the front. so while you may do 1 or 2 rear axle swaps many times you will keep the D30. in the end saving you money
that is just my take on it

If lucky, you can swap G80 from the solid rear axle Volvo. Some types of Volvo diff lock fitted with G80, which has a sticker that is coded 1041. Of course, no special modifications are required, because the G80 at the Volvo suitable for drive axle that has 27 spline.

A spool is meant for non daily use.... if you try a spool on the street and try to turn even in 2wd you will start breaking shafts and ujoints. a spool basically acts as if you are running a solid shaft from wheel to wheel. meaning when you go to turn the outside wheel cannot move faster and the wheels will start hopping and skipping and binding. its bad news bears on the street
I've got an ARB locker in my D44 rear, I really like it. Having it selectable is one reason I like it as much as I do.
I had a chance to get a front ARB, but passed. It is something I still regret.
If you can get a selectable locker, go that route, or something that won't effect street drivability. For example an OX.

So let's say I lunchbox my front. When winter falls and I pop into 4x4 on the fly cause the roads are snow packed is it fount to be unbearable to drive? ( thinking about powertrax no slip)

SLOW DOWN!
and it will sorta pull you in a straight line since the outside wheel cannot slow down momentum to turn. both will spin at the same rate. what i hear is you will learn it. be smart and be safe and SLOW DOWN
I put the Spartan locker up front in the D30. I have 32 inch tires on it and the only thing is that I can hear it clicking when I'm turning. But that clicking sound is kinda comforting (in other words I like it). To be fair, I live on the AL/FL line. We don't have rocks, just mud, lots and lots of mud, and stumps, so i can't give you advice about rocks and snow. But up front daily driving you don't even know it's there besides the clicking when you turn.
