Nice! Looking forward to seeing how your rig performs with Lokkas front and rear. There is a lokka thread somewhere, it may be worth reviving. I plan to get one for the front of my rig to start. I'd really like a selectable in the rear, though.

Yeah I have heard over and over again that a rear lunch box is not for the faint of heart. We will see how I feel about it. I really hate the one wheel peel in the snow pair with the unexpected rear end flick out sideways at 20- 40 mph. At least if its locked I know what its going to do . At least Im better off than the standard shift short wheelbase guys. I could see that being a PITA.

Installed the rear locker yesterday on my back in the garage in the slushy gritty cold. Sorry no pics it wasnt a pretty job, not too bad of a job as soon as you figure out the order everything needs to go it to get the c-clips in. As far as driving on the street, the roads are still a little sloppy up here and I am loving the traction. Road manners I am loving as well this thing pretty much acts like a spool that doesnt make the axles wrap up. thats really the best way I can describe it. That being said it wants to go strait on dry pavement, it still steers nice but you can feel it and it is very tail happy in the slick stuff when your on the skinny pedal. exactly what I expected. Right now I am happy I went against the grain and locked the rear. Im looking forward to doing the front hopefully before my next trail ride.

Your final choice of lockers over lift was a good one on your part. I'm sure you will be happy with them, but don't envy you on the way you had to install outside in the slush and cold.

My Detroit's are going in this week also.

Keep in mind, when installing a front locker that is 'non-selectable' (lunchbox) and running the 242 transfer case, 'full-time' becomes not usable on dry pavement and can cause trouble on wet.

Good thing I have a 231. I did about a year of reading about different lockers before I decided to go with the good old cheap lunch box route. People are always telling me "you know you could break an axle" "those arent good in the snow" and the like. I had a pretty good idea that it was going to change the way it drove and even though I havent been able to hit the trail yet Im still happy I decided to lock the rear and from what I heard the front is even less noticeable when in 2wd. The only thing that I can see is loosing a little steering radius in 4wd especially in sand but most of my wheeling is rocky trials so no biggy.

Yes, in 2wd the only thing noticeable should be the clicking when turning.
Regarding steering radius and drive-line binding, I believe the terrain is backwards. The sand will allow wheel slip easier than rocks or trails and understeer will not be an issue. In higher traction off-road surfaces steering radius will be reduced.
Regardless, the benefits of lockers far outweigh the minor issues.

$240 shipped to your door. 2000 miles on it. Works great. I am only replacing because I am regearing and I got sweet deal on a detroit . So of figured why not since I was regearing anyway. Comes with hardened cross pin. And sticker lol. And yes , it is 29 spline. Not even a year old.
