Okey so i have a 97 xj with a D30 up front nd D35 rear. I was thinking about having a "lincon locker" rear nd a selectable locker up front. Oh nd my xj its a trail only rig the only time it would see pavement is wen im crossing a streets around where we go wheeling or wen im unloading it to my backyard. I mainly wanna know ppls thoughts on the welded up rear if its a good idea or nt.

I run a mechanical locker in the back right now as a dd. Since your rig is a dd, weld it up. It won't do harm since it won't see street time at all. Just lay a nice thick bead around the spiders then fill the middle. Others will chime in with another process. But, good luck!

I've got my rear end welded and am very happy with it, you got to have the spiders CLEAN before welding them though. I do drive mine on the street and in all honesty I much prefer them welded or a spool in the rear to a ratcheting locker, the lockers are very twitchy and unpredictable and can unsettle the handling of whatever they're in at very awkward times. Spools and welded spiders can be a pain in tight parking lots and such but are much more predictable and easier to live with on the road which is more important to me then chirping tires in a parking lot.

I've got the miller locker and I drive it on the road every so often and you get used to it. It was cheaper then going with a locker and I am very pleased with the results

I would not lincoln lock a d35 ever again.

Back when I first got into wheeling, I lincoln locked my D35 only running 31'' tires. Before I ever got it offroad, I was tuning a corner and all of the sudden, It stopped chirping. Broke a d35 axle shaft turning a corner at 5 mph. Luck for me, it was not a c-clip d35, so my axle didnt come out of the housing but fluid started coming out of the axle tube instantly.

I would swap in a 29 spline chryco 8.25, cherokee d44, or a ford 8.8 before locking it out back. Im not one that says IT IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!, but it happened to me!

Okey so after a lil research nd looking under my xj i found out it has a chrysr 8.25 nt a D35...would it still be okey to weld it up...im like so happy cause i always thought it was a D35, this is gonna be a great day

I wouldn't recommend Lincoln locking a DD. Its generally unsafe and puts excessive strain on driveline components and tires. Lincoln locking is better kept to trail rigs.

I was also thinking of something along the lines of a lunch box style locker...anyone have any experience with them

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard of any one running one of those style lockers. You should run one and report back.

Yea I have a lock rite in my 8.25, I drive it alot on the street, in the snow, rain and everything else. Works great off road and I have had no problems with it on road. I just pay attenion to what I am doing. Richmond recommends 85-140 gear oil and that is what I use. You can faintly hear the racheting around corners but not bad at all. Mine was 300 bucks and installed in a couple hours.
