Lincoln Locker, 8.25 (29 spline), 33s on the street
Lincoln Locker, 8.25 (29 spline), 33s on the street?
I know it will wear tires faster, but how bad are we talking?
the only reason I ask is I have a 29 spline laying around ready to go, already welded up and same ratio as my 27 spline (which is open diff...)
the plan was to get a lunchbox locker... but it might be a little while before I can work that into the budget...
SO how bad would tire wear be with the Lincoln Locker when compared to an auto locker??
I do not drive much, when I do I mostly drive highway, normally around 300-500 miles in a month

I welded one on my old truck. Highways weren't a problem, just be careful on curvy on ramps. It would surprise me if I got on it just a little bit and there was some gravel or ice.
In town and parking lots. That's where they chirp chirp chirp. The tires cupped but I ran that way for a year and didn't notice excessive wear. They suck in snow on the road also.

Do you hear banjos?
No good! Your tires WILL wear faster! I have a spool, but I don't daily drive mine, and my tires are visibly worn after two wheeling trips, and about 1500 miles...not a big deal to me, but if you drive yours to and from at all, I would recommend saving your money....HTH!!

My 29 spline is welded, but again its a trail rig only! I flat tow to the trail (building my trailer)
plain & simple dont use the welded axle for your DD. the price for new tires once a year far outways the price for a good locker!

With you only driving 300-500 miles a month, and most of that on the highway, tire wear is most likely not something to worry about. I work with a guy that dd's his 4runner on 33 muds with a spool in the rear. He's close to you on miles/month driven and the wear is not that noticeable.
