If you dont have an actual issue and you just want to lower the temp a bit and you think it looks good, dont let anyone stop you. I think a lot of stuff I see on this site looks stupid, but there sure are a lot of people doing the same mod.

You need to look in to your cooling system and find the problem like others have said. I've seen guys run desert vehicles with stock radiator and 2 stock AC fans (which is what I run). Now , out in the desert, you don't get too much hotter than that. I understand the $$ issue, but what are you going to do when you do the silly looking hood vent mod and it still overheats?
My xj had this done to it when I Bought it I think there is only about 4 washers on ether side just enough to raze the hood about 1/4 to 3/8 in. When I am running around I am at about 200deg and I have a header as well most people don't even notice I even have it done
This is a fairly common modification in the drift car community. This company makes a set for some Nissan S-chassis cars but I'm sure you could source the correct, now longer, bolts if you wanted to use their spacers... I'm not here to comment as to how much they help, just giving you a source for some machined ones. On that same page is their air/water separator. Once I get done with my other build project, I plan to purchase their plain aluminum one and see if it helps the XJ's cooling efficiency.

Guess I missed the part where you actually stated that, because nowhere did I read it.
If youre overheating, jacking your hood isnt going to help and youre going to end up breaking things. Find and fix the issue, starting with burping your system and getting it to the correct level. Do that AFTER installing a new thermostat and youll be able to start the process of elimination if overheating still occurs. If you just want to jack your hood and hope it fixes your overheating issue, youre looking at MAJOR problems down the road.

Add a B&M tranny cooler. They are cheap and easy. Also a good time to flush, but it sounds like you've done that. Def get a new t stat, electric fan (off a 2.8L Taurus I believe). If there are some crushed fins on the radiator you can straighten them out... It a bit arduous, but it won't hurt.
Also.. What is the rest of your system lookin like? Air, fuel and spark all need to be strong for it to run well. If hi have a clogged air or fuel filter, it's gonna struggle.. What's your gas mileage like?

You guys really think I'm that much of an idiot? You honestly think that in MY mind I think lifting the rear of my hood will solve all of my problems? I just asked a simple question that had a simple answer. No need to look like mr cool guys and try and talk down to a "noobie" with all of your oh so vast knowledge on the subject.
chill out, if you get your head out of your butt you will see that the comments are constructive. the consensus is dont worry about lifting the back of your hood, spend your time actually solving your problems. I figured since you could figure out how to space the back of your hood that you might need help solving an overheating problem...

I did it to mine using
4 - 8mm 1.25 x 40mm hex bolt screws
52- 1/4" washers
I think venting engine heat is a good thing and I did the hood spacers cause at the time I didn't wanna find vents or cut my hood. Who cares about opinions of this mod, it's your jeep so do it up.

Cool your jets bro. People here are just trying to help you. Nobody called you an idiot for one and for two, the way you argued that you were tired of overheating and the name of the thread was named "lifting the rear of your hood" leads people to believe that is the fix you are looking for. How else was anyone supposed to take it? Many people on the forum are very knowledgable and will give you good information. Everyone who responded to you gave you good advice trying to help you out and attempted to help you in the long term as well. Some even answered questions before you asked it because face it, having a Jeep, you never run out of questions. Don't feel like you were singled out because you are a "newbie" That's not the intent here. You came in with a problem and we're trying to help you. If you come in with an attitude, then people aren't going to want to help you in the future. Goodluck to you finding your problem.
