Lift kit help
I am totally new to xj's, As a matter of fact, My grandpa just gave me a 1993 cherokee today. Oh , I am only 13. My question is this. I am wondering if my dad and I can buy a 4.5 suspension kit, and also add a 3" spacer kit for the front and use the rear shackles that are adjustable 1.5 or 2 inches to give me a total of 7" up front and 6" in the rear?
2nd question, if this is possible, do we need to change out the stearing, and what size tires can I run? Sorry and also I cant find any 15x8 with a 4.5" backspacing.
last thing, how can I tell what rear end I have?
Thank you all for your help. I just got my xj 3 hours ago, and everything is pretty exciting.

15x8 and 4.5 BS is not going to work with any tire bigger than 30" on a XJ, you want 4" or less. Anyway yess there are kits like you say BUT, Yes you go that High you are basically going to have to replace EVERYthing in the suspension and steering to make it work. You will need Long Arms at minimum, SYE and DS, HD OTK steering. You could do 35" tires easily, but that will require a different rear end cause chance are you have a D35. 15x8 and 4.5BS is stock wheel size if you have aluminum wheels, steel wheels are 15x7 with 4.5BS

Thank you soo much. We will just buy the 4.5 lift. It says we can go to a 32x11.5, that will be enough. Guess we were trying to run before we could walk. Thank you again!!!

For the lift you can do that but the higher you lift it the more you have to replace. Its not as easy as just putting the lift in theres so much other stuff you have do to once you go that high. i dont know about your second question and to tell what kind of rear you either have a dana 35 (bad) or a chrysler 8.25 (better). the 8.25 has a clear flat part on the bottom and the dana 35 doesnt. also if you have ABS you have a dana 35. and you can probably run 35+ but youll need to do some trimming

look into full kits when going that high. there ar a lot of things going on when you go above 4.5".. i would read a lot and try and find what fits for you. some good places to look

If you go over 6 inches i would highly recommend a long arm kit.
You will want to modify the steering as the factory XJ stuff is kinda weak and not a great setup. there are a lot of ways to do this.
there are wheels that are 15" with 4.5" back spacing... 4" should work well to. tons of pics of both on this site...
max tire size has a lot to do with you, how you bump stop it, how much you cut, backspacing ect... I would pick a tire size based on what you want to do with your vehicle. then Try and keep it as low as possible to fit that tire. looking threw build threads will give you lots of ideas and info.
look at the rear diff cover. this is your easiest way to figure out which rear end you have. compare it to this.
you either have a D30, 8.25, D44 but i don't think you could get a D44 past 89? maybe 90... good luck.
