Hi my name is Justin and I just bought a 1998 xj sport 4.0 I have taken it in the mud and a few trails and I already feel the need for a lift... I don't want to go crazy and drop a lot of money into it just yet but I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheep way to accomplish this or had spare parts or a complete lift they would like to sell, I'm thinking a 3 or 4 inch with 31s. Any ideas?

you could get a second hand one on ebay, or a junk yard build but i looked at my options and i bought a rough country 4.5 short arm and i have modded it a little but i rock crawl and its a dd so its just depends on your skill level and pocket book

For the RC sort arm lifts, are the rc arms that you get with the upgraded kit any good? Our would it be better to get the rc short arm kit then buy some differemt arms from another company like rubicon express?
All short arms are pretty much the same. RE offers a super-flex joint on some of there arms which is slightly better but honestly the arms that come with the RC kit will be just fine. If you plan on getting a long arm kit then I would take some time and do some research, as some companies build better long arm kits than others.

i highly recommend the RC 4.5" kit i bought one for my 95 xj i had and ran 32x11.50x15s on 15x8 D ring steel wheels it road good on the road and flexed good with sway bars still hooked up ... i took the rear sway bar off and unhooked the front ones and wow the flex from this simple short arm kit is great i loved it and i drove this jeep daily and beat on it daily i broke the control arm mounts off the front axle has to buy new heavy duty ones to weld on but i beat on mine for well over a year and never had a problem out of anything with the kit its well worth the money
