No, because the lighting system has already suffered enough to the point one feels they need to pay $400 for LEDs to get better lighting...because the switch design is stupid.

You've got like ten of those **** relays in your fusebox already and has your XJ caught fire yet? They have lasted 17 years already, right?

RENIX fuse box.

No relays.

Your fusebox...

10 relays, and none for your headlights.

Which would you prefer?

The Putco relays, while not ideal, are better than the stock switch design. They're not as likely to burn your Jeep to the ground if they fail. If they do fail, you just replace them with a new relay, as opposed to replacing a torched dashboard.

The relays in my ARB harness are bulletproof. I'm not worried about them at all.

It was pathetic when it rolled off the line 17 years ago, and it's pathetic now, that's just halogens. A brand new F150 with halogens is just as crappy as my 17 year old XJ.

Neither has my switch, and it wouldn't have to work half as hard with LEDs and no harder than with the parking lights, your point being what exactly?

I'm just saying if your argument is that it's going to fail with LED heads, then the exact same concern is still there for the parking lights. However, if one is not concerned with the parking lights, then why should they be concerned with the LED headlights?

A cherokee owner is going to be looking at LED lights because their light output is not what they would like it to be. I would value a good headlight system at $400 too, but the $15 a piece off-the-shelf halogen lights with the relay system does do a really good job of lighting the road. The difference is like night vs day...almost literally.

For folks reading this that are wanting to brighten up their headlights, they should do the relay harness first and see for themselves how well they do...and if they still want something better than they can dish out that extra $400.

Unless they've got $ just pouring out of the ears...if so, they probably are driving a newer, flashier vehicle and not these scruffy (but awesome) Cherokees.

I totally agree with all those statements. I put HID projectors in my TJ, but that's a 17,000 Jeep.

I make more than enough to buy trucklites, but I went with DOT duallys instead.

Yes, if you want to brighten halogen headlights or run higher wattage bulbs, a relay setup will indeed take care of that. LED headlights require neither of those things though...

Oh I have a new vehicle, my Cherokee is something that will keeps me busy putzing around on it....I guess I should not of started this thread, I'm not strapped with cash by any means as all those that don't like LED's seem to think. If you have LED's you have a ton of money laying around, not the case for me...but I thought at this point in my build this is something I wanted so I thought I'd reach out to you fine people to get an opinion on the harness.

Now I'm totally confused and am wondering if I should just send the damm lights back...oh boy

New guy here- but long time Jeep guy. I did the relay on the headlights on my 99 TJ, headlight output was still poor- so I upgraded to better halogens with fresh lenses and reflectors- still not happy.

Upgraded to Trucklite LED and got what I wanted- lots of light.

I just sold that TJ to my brother so I could buy a 2012 JKU. What I really wanted was a 4 door and auto trans. About $30K. WHAT THE...

So I picked up a 2000 XJ and got what I wanted and saved 27k$. And my first upgrade is Trucklite LEDs- they should be here friday.

Not messing with the relay this time. I have insurance for fires.

I hate not being able to see. Don't return them. The comments re other drivers having LEDs were off base, just make sure to aim them properly.

They don't make them to be worked on, even though they will always need to be worked on. 'Built Ford tough!' is pure bs.

Sorry to derail, but I had to say something...
Haha, I bought $3500 worth of stereo to put in the truck, but with the factory NAV/Amp setup, it just would have sounded like **** without another $1000 on a sound processor.

Now $2000 of it is in the XJ and I gave the truck to my dad.

Can't collect the insurance if you burned up in that fire... Just sayin'. I certainly hope you don't have to experience that because it is really frightening to have your car catch fire while you are driving it.

Might as well keep em and use em. I don't know if you ordered the harness too, but if you did, you might consider trying the harness first with the regular bulbs and then compare with the LEDs. That experiment could help others know if the LEDs are a good choice.

I haven't actually used the LEDs so I don't really know. I do know how I hate driving into people with high-beams on or badly aimed bright lights. The higher the Jeep sits makes it worse for others for the lights...

Probably not a bad idea, I did order the harness, I guess I'll try it with the stock headlights first and see what improvement I get...

Thanks again

I ordered cheap $22 diamond headlights off eBay and my light output is 100 times better than stock. Im sure someone will bash me for getting cheap eBay lights but they work great and I would recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade without spending a bunch of money
