Since i just bought a winch & recovery gear, i stumbled on the Land Winch Anchor & thought that may be worth buying!! Question is, how reliable are they & has anyone on here used them with success & ease of operation??

What do u guys think & has anyone used one? Seems like a good tool to have & as the saying goes, "the best winch is no good if u have nothing to hook it up too!"

 

I did see one of these trying to.be used once at Bundy hill in Michigan where I wheel at and it was hilarious. I diddnt know if he was trying to get out or preparing to plant corn from all the dirt he was plowing up. Not sure if it was this brand though. If it works like the video it would be sweet.

 

Well the trick is to angle the blade downward into the dirt/mud/snow, so that it will eventually plow thru enough earth to become a solid anchor point. Im assuming that step is the most important part as is setting up any recovery gear with safety in mind & reliability of the product.

Keep em coming, as i wanna find someone whos actually used one to see what they have to say about a winch anchor.

 

You can always carry a shovel. Then dig a hole to put your spare tire in so the wheel is facing angled away from your rig. Then use that as a winch point. It's cheaper financially, but more expensive with manual labor.

 

That doesnt sound very feesable, especially when ur diggin a hole for a 35, plus the thread is askin about these specific winch anchors & if anyone has some real world feedback on them. My research has found these to be very reliable, but id like to hear that from the horses mouth himself!!

From what I saw that thing couldn't hold enough dirt/mud to get out a mildly stuck zj. It would dig into the dirt then when the winch started pulling hard it was just like a plow and plowed a rut in the ground all.the way to his jeep. About 4 times of this and we put a few rigs together and pulled him out. I would say in a perfect world this would work but it diddnt work when I saw it.

Top Gear used one when Clarkson took a Land Rover up a Scottish mountain.

 

The pull pal looks like a better design. If the spade was wider it would probably work better. I'm sure in sand or something similar it wouldn't work at all.

 

I can tell you one thing, I will never be the guy standing on the plow while someone recovers with it.

 

I've seen a pull pal used and it worked ok. The best land anchor I seen and used was a farm disc, ( You know the 16 - 20 inch round things that farmers use after plowing and before planting. ) The guy that made it took a 16 inch disc and ran a bolt through the center hole with an angled piece of iron and a shackle on it. The more you winch it the deeper it would go, plus it could be dismantled for storage.
